Retreat with Artisan: Glassmaking or Lampworking retreat, Murano, Veneto

A five-day glassmaking retreat in Murano, where ancient techniques and contemporary innovation come together to create unique handmade pieces.

Overview

This immersive retreat offers a hands-on introduction to traditional Murano glassmaking and lampworking, guided by skilled artisans inside an authentic laboratory environment.

Over five days, you’ll work directly with molten glass, learning how precision, patience, and timing come together to create refined handmade pieces. Through daily studio sessions, you’ll explore core techniques while developing your own creations — discovering how true quality emerges from focus, repetition, and respect for material.

More than a technical course, this experience invites you to reconnect with your hands and rediscover the value of craftsmanship, transforming raw glass into meaningful artistic objects.

Immersive learning experience

Creative Italy retreats are designed as immersive creative journeys.

Each day includes approximately three hours of lampworking or glassmaking in the artisan’s laboratory, either in the morning or afternoon. You’ll learn how molten glass responds to heat and movement, shaping your own pieces while gaining insight into centuries-old techniques.

Beyond the studio, guided island walks and lagoon exploration allow creativity to flow naturally from place, history, and everyday Venetian life — leaving you deeply connected to the soul of Venice.

A personalised experience

This retreat is offered one-to-one or in small groups, allowing the programme to adapt fully to your level and creative goals.

Whether you are approaching glassmaking for the first time or already familiar with creative processes, the artisan tailors guidance to your pace and interests. You’ll receive close support throughout the workshop, building confidence with tools, heat, and form while developing your own personal pieces.

Destination: Murano

Set on Murano, in the Venetian Lagoon of Venice, this retreat unfolds in one of the world’s most iconic centres of glass artistry.

Glassmaking has shaped Murano for centuries, playing a central role in the prosperity of the Republic of Venice. The earliest written record of a Venetian glass master, Dominicus Phiolarius, dates back to 982, while archaeological research suggests glass was already being produced on Torcello even earlier.

Beyond Murano, you’ll explore quieter islands such as San Francesco del Deserto, discover hidden corners of the lagoon with an expert guide, and enjoy a visit to an ancient winery — revealing another layer of Venetian culture.
