Leather Craft Course in Florence

Where material becomes form and function

A course dedicated to the art of leather craftsmanship — where tradition, precision, and design come together.

Guided by expert artisans, you will learn how to transform raw leather into refined objects, understanding both the technical process and the creative possibilities of this timeless material.

The Course

Crafting Through Tradition and Technique.

This course introduces leather working as both a technical skill and a design discipline.

From the selection of materials to the construction of a finished object, you will learn each step of the process — developing an understanding of structure, durability, and aesthetics.

Working entirely by hand, you will create a leather piece, gaining insight into the logic behind high-quality craftsmanship and Made in Italy production.

The art behind the technique

Leather working is one of the oldest crafts, with origins dating back to prehistory. Over time, it evolved into a recognized profession during the Middle Ages, becoming deeply rooted in European artisanal traditions.

In Italy, leather craftsmanship developed into a symbol of excellence, balancing tradition with innovation. The evolution of tanning techniques — particularly the introduction of chrome tanning in the early 20th century — allowed leather to become more versatile, durable, and adaptable to modern design.

Today, Italy remains one of the world leaders in leather production, with regions such as Tuscany, Veneto, Campania, and Lombardy at the forefront of quality and innovation.

The legacy of Italian leather is also shaped by influential figures such as Guccio Gucci, who contributed to elevating craftsmanship into a global symbol of style and identity.

Beyond technique: the artisan mindset

Leather craftsmanship is about precision, patience, and intention.

Each cut, each stitch, and each detail contributes to the integrity of the final piece. Working by hand requires focus and respect for the material.

Through this process, you learn to think in structure — understanding how an object is built, how it functions, and how it endures over time.

It is not only about creating an object, but about understanding the logic behind it.
