Watercolor Course in Turin

The art of observation: master the fluidity of color in a journey tailored to your creativity

Painting with watercolors means learning to inhabit the world with a fresh perspective. I offer you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a technical and sensory journey where the transparency of water meets the expression of your personal vision.

In the heart of Turin, within an environment that fosters calm and excellence, I will guide you in discovering a technique that requires patience but yields unparalleled freedom.

Whether your goal is to capture the atmosphere of a landscape, the unique features of a face, or the details of a trip in your Carnet de Voyage (travel sketchbook), I will provide you with the tools to transform intuition into an indelible mark.
This is the moment you decide to give voice to your artistic identity.

The Course

A personalized journey based on your artistic vision.

The teaching method steps away from rigid instruction to embrace a tailored approach. Everyone brings a unique sensibility; therefore, the course is structured to adapt to your inclinations and the time you wish to dedicate to your growth.

The program tackles technique through the lens of your visual research across four main paths:

  • Landscapes: To capture the atmosphere, light, and depth of open spaces.
  • Portraits: To explore the delicacy and unique traits of any subject, human or animal, through the transparency of water.
  • Carnet de Voyage: To transform travel into a visual narrative, blending quick sketching with evocative color.
  • Personal Project: If you already have an idea or artwork you wish to create, I will provide the technical and conceptual support to bring it to life.

Whatever your starting level, we will work together to refine your hand and your eye, integrating theory with constant, guided practice. The course takes place in and around Turin. We will paint landscapes, urban vistas, and curiosities to document in your Carnet de Voyage en plein air when the weather is fine; we will work in the studio for moments requiring deeper concentration and direct feedback, or in the event of unfavorable weather.

The art behind the technique

The mastery of water: balancing control and freedom.

Watercolor is a medium that does not allow for hesitation, yet it rewards those who learn to converse with the unexpected. My artistic research is founded on transparency and fluidity: two elements that demand not only technical skill but a profound understanding of the medium.

My background combines a self-taught spirit, free from preconceived notions, with rigorous training built over time through direct interaction with the greatest contemporary masters of international watercolor. This synthesis allows me to offer you a vision that is both technical and philosophical.

Painting with me means learning to:

  • Manage water: Not as a limitation, but as an ally to create vibrant atmospheres.
  • Understand pigments: Studying their sedimentation, granulation, and how they interact when mixed.
  • Develop intention: Making every brushstroke the result of mindful observation—a perfect balance between technical gesture and the emotion of the moment.

Course modules & skills

A structured path to unleash your expression.

The teaching method is grounded in practicality. At every stage of the journey, the teacher will provide live demonstrations to show you exactly how water and pigment interact on paper. You will be guided step-by-step: this approach will allow you to gain immediate technical confidence while leaving you the necessary space to let your personal style emerge.

Learning is incremental: each new skill builds upon the previous one, allowing you to tackle increasingly complex challenges with ease.

M1 — Basics and Mark-Making

  • The journey begins with mastering technical foundations.
  • You will learn about materials and how to handle the preparatory sketch, focusing on small-format and single-subject paintings.
  • We will concentrate on stroke precision and managing the first washes without the pressure of a complex composition.

M2 — Structure and Visual Architecture

  • In this phase, we will introduce the concepts of composition and perspective.
  • You will learn how to organize space on the paper, deciding where to guide the observer’s eye.
  • Understanding structure will transform your sketches into solid, balanced artworks.

M3 — The Science of Color and Tonal Values

  • Here we will dive into atmospheric rendering.
  • We will study color management and the importance of tonal values (lights and darks), which are the true secret to giving volume and depth to a watercolor.
  • You will learn to mix colors without making them muddy, maintaining the luminosity typical of professional technique.

M4 — Narrative and Personal Project

  • The final module is dedicated to creative synthesis.
  • You will bring together all the acquired skills to tell a story through a painting.
  • Whether it’s a personal project or a Carnet de Voyage, I will guide you in creating a complete piece that is not only technically correct but also reflects your vision and artistic feeling.

Beyond technique: the artisan mindset

Beyond the brush: educating your eye and intent.

We will not limit ourselves to mixing colors or drawing lines: we will explore the psychology of the creative act and the mental attitude needed to tackle watercolor successfully. Painting with watercolors means knowing how to manage the unknown and the countless factors that influence the result.

To paint mindfully, we will work on three fundamental pillars of the artistic mindset:

  • The art of observation: Before touching the paper, you will learn to “read” reality. We will analyze how light shapes forms and how to synthesize the complexity of the world into essential brushstrokes. You will develop an artist’s eye, capable of seeing beyond the subject to capture its chromatic and atmospheric essence.
  • The dialogue with the unexpected: Watercolor is a living medium. I will teach you to let go of the need for absolute control and embrace the fluidity of water. You will learn to manage mistakes and turn an unexpected bloom into a creative opportunity, developing the resilience that distinguishes a professional from an enthusiast.
  • Time and waiting: Painting is an exercise in patience. Understanding when to intervene and when to let the pigment settle is crucial. Together, we will cultivate the ability to wait for the right moment, allowing you to paint with a calmness that will be reflected in the freshness and clarity of your final piece.

Developing an artistic mindset means no longer fearing the blank page and starting to see it as a space of endless possibilities. The technical confidence you acquire will give you the mental freedom to express your most authentic voice.
