Retreat with Artisan in the city of Bitonto: The rare pearl of Apulia – Papier-Machè

A five-day papier-mâché retreat in Apulia, where craftsmanship and hands-on creation transform simple materials into expressive handmade pieces.

Overview

This immersive art retreat offers a hands-on introduction to traditional papier-mâché techniques, guided by talented local artisans inside an authentic laboratory setting.

Over five days, you’ll learn how to transform simple materials into expressive handmade objects — discovering how dexterity, patience, and attention to detail shape quality craftsmanship. Working step by step on a defined project, you’ll explore modelling, layering, drying, and finishing techniques while developing your own creative piece.

More than a technical workshop, this experience invites you to reconnect with your hands and rediscover the pleasure of creating something from scratch — opening the door to personal expression through a versatile and sustainable medium.

Immersive learning experience

Creative Italy retreats are designed as immersive creative journeys.

Each morning you’ll spend approximately three hours in the artisan’s laboratory, learning papier-mâché techniques through guided practice and project development. Alongside studio work, curated visits enrich your understanding of regional craftsmanship and creative culture.

This experience encourages you to slow down, engage deeply with materials, and allow place, process, and tradition to inform your creativity.

A personalised experience

This retreat is delivered in individual or small groups and adapted to each participant’s level.

Whether you are approaching papier-mâché for the first time or already have creative experience, the artisan provides personalised guidance throughout the process. The programme supports your individual pace and interests, helping you gain confidence while exploring the many creative possibilities of this material.
