Santo Stefano di Camastra\u2019s history is closely tied to the various ruling powers in Sicily over the centuries. The roots of its ceramic tradition date back to the ancient Phoenician and Greek civilizations, both of which are known for their pottery making skills.<\/span><\/p>\n

Production accelerated during the Medieval and Renaissance periods. The influence of the Normans, Bourbons, plus that of the Byzantine and Arab rulers, contributed to the unique style of ceramics from the area.\u00a0 It could be said that Santo Stefano di Camastra became\u00a0 the site for successive ceramics retreats in Sicily for these numerous civilizations over time! \n* Raku firing – students will also have the option to learn about this low firing proce<\/em>ss known for its dramatic and colourful results<\/em><\/p>\n

Creation of Testa di More<\/strong> – the iconic ceramic heads inspired by the Arab heritage of Sicily. Learn about the folklore and history of these iconic works and create your own!<\/p>\n
